cml seminar in nottingham

I am looking forward to attending the seminar in November, this will be the 4th one that I have attended. I just wondered if anyone would be putting up a list of nearby hotels to stay in that are a little cheaper than the Crown Plaza Hotel, I phoned them up and told them that I was a delegate at the seminar and asked about the reduced rate which they are giving a discount of £4.00 from available rooms costing £89 including breakfast. This is ok for 2 people and these hotels are very nice, I have stayed in one of these at Mancester airport, if people attending the seminar are having money problems then £85 is a lot to find. I have been looking on-line to check nearby hotels and there does seem to be some hotels a little cheaper, so I wondered whether anybody knows the Nottingham area and could give any details and distances of other hotels in relation to the place where the seminar is being held. Also are there any funds available to assist people who would like to attend the seminar but can not due to financial problems. This was one of the thing brought up at our 2nd Yorkshire Region CML Support Group Meeting which was held on Monday 14th September Sue

Hello Sue,
I too have applied to register for the seminar, having done so as soon as notice was given on this site. As of yet I have not heard anything as to whether I have been accepted or not & wondered if you have had any official notification as to whether you have been given a place.
As this is the first seminar I will have been to I am not quite sure of the procedure for these things. Hopefully I will see you there, as I am looking forward to meeting with other patients & discussing how things are going.
Best wishes
Bob

Hi, I am new to this group and will introduce myself in a separate posting but I thought you might like to know what I've found out about booking the Crowne Plaza for the seminar. Firstly, the number on the form does not work and neither does the reservations number on the hotel's website. I eventually found a number which works and it is 0871 942 9161.

According to their website, a standard pre-paid room is £59 for the room, whether single or double (not per person). I was therefore surprised by the "special delegates rate" of £85 B&B. I'm happy to find breakfast elsewhere for a saving of £26! The proviso is that room must be paid for when booking and cannot be changed or refunded.

I was only diagnosed 8 weeks ago so this will be my first seminar too so you won't be the only newbee Bob. I look forward to meeting you there.

With kind regards
Cathy

Dear Bob,
I am sure that your registration will ensure you a place. These events are usually organised by the nurses working at the centres concerned rather than professional events organisers. So things might be a little slow and we might need to be sympathetic to the nurses who are trying to organise an event as well as do their normal job.
Usually everyone who applies gets a place.

Cathy, thanks for updating us with a workable phone number and with details of the room rates. I agree that £26 is a lot for breakfast and I will make sure I just book the bed and not the breakfast!!

On a positive note the Nottingham team are not charging for the day. Usually a small charge of around £15.00 is made but this year it is free. So there is some saving on other years.

I am sure you will find it is a small price to pay for the contact with expert clinicians and for the chance to meet up with others in the same situation... that alone is priceless......I look forward to meeting all of you.

Hi All

I've not posted on the site for a long, long time but often pop in and have a look. Nice to see some familar names still around. We have also applied to come to the Nottingham Seminar as it's not far from us, but I'm sure, as Sandy says, that the nurses are organising this on top of their normal jobs and we will eventually get tickets.
Ted is still Rockin' and we are looking forward to seeing you all again!

Hello All,

I've just boooked a hotel for the seminar and thought I would share my findings in case others are still looking for cheaper alternatives to the "delegate discount" that Crowne Plaza are offering!

Days Inn - £56 for a double - located on the same road as the Crowne Plaza
Premier Inn - £56 for a double - looks like it's a ten minute walk away

These are refundable rates so if you don't mind paying up front I think the Days Inn do a slightly cheaper option too.

All the best,

Bhiru
