Welcome Nigel

Hello Nigel and welcome to this forum. All of us on here are CML patients or family members of people diagnosed with CML. We can answer most questions and if not can point you in the right direction. I do hope you can make it to Cardiff and that your wife overcomes her fear of attending. It is very relaxed and above all you will meet others like the members of this forum who have CML and have been successfully treated with imatinib, nilotinib or dasatinib (Glivec, Tasigna or Sprycel) over the long term. The sirvival projection at present is a progession free survival of 15-20 years and rising- and of course depends on your age at diagnosis. Median age at diagnosis is 50-55 and around 1/3rd are over 60 when first diagnosed. I advise you to take your time- there is a lot to learn- but DO have the confidence that the majority of newly diagnosed patient will respond well to imatinib (Glivec) and will be more likely to die of old age- or something else -but NOT CML. CML Support Group is a charity- you can find all details on the About Us/postal address page on the main menu. We really do need and welcome donations of any amount. We are independant of any other charity and are totally specific for Ph+ CML. I also suggest that you take a stroll around the FAQ page to find explanations/answers to commonly asked questions. for example click this link http://cmlsupport.org.uk/cmlfaq_whatiscml
