2 years on glivec rising results

hi there my name is Hannah, although I have always read the forum regularly and found it very imformative I have never joined as a member before until now.............................
I have been on glivec since aug 2010 following a diagnosis of cml in january 2010 which was picked up on a routine blood test for pregnancy (what a shock!) Anyway I achieved a CCR in january 2011 and went on to achieve a MMR in august 2011. the results are as follows for the last 10 months
August 2011 pcr result. 0.05
December 2011 pcr 0.03
feburary 2012 pcr 0.008
may 2012 pcr 0.04
I attended a routine hosp appointment yesterday (Im on 3 monthly) to inform me that there had been a rise in pcr from feb to may please see results above just wondering if any one can shed any light on what they think or indeed if I have anything to worry about. Doc said it may be a "blip" although if continues to rise may require a change in meds. I AM VERY WORRIED X

Hi Hanna,
I know its not easy but try not to get too worried.
As your doc says it may be just a blip, or even an inconsistency in one of your results which can happen.
I think its just a question of waiting until they do another PCR test.
My PCR doubled, then dropped again recently back down to 0.004%.
There is always nilotinib (2nd generation TKI tablet) which is 30 times more potent than Glivec.
Take care

Hi Hannah,

as David has said... do not worry.
You really need to see two consecutive rises of 5-10 fold before you need to worry that your bcr/abl levels are on the rise
Your sequence of pcr results are very low even though the feb one is higher than the others, which makes that one look like the one that is the odd one out i.e the 'blip'..... the rest of your results are consistent and stable.

It seems to me that as your counts over the last year are the same, you do not need to be concerned about losing response.

Best to talk with your doctor about getting a deeper molecular response by changing to a 2nd gen TKI .

Best wishes,
Sandy
