Talking of eye problems.....

Hi All

My husband Ted has had CML for 15 years with no real problems except the usual side effects from Imatinib. However a few months ago he noticed he couldn't see to read his music properly. As it happened he was due for a regular eye test, so booked an Optician's appointment and was informed that he has cataracts......

Luckily we have private healthcare for such things, so booked an appointment with a specialist, to get them fixed. The Ophthalmologist said he had slight cataracts but these were not the cause of his problem and he has now had various tests including an MRI scan. Referred to a neurologist and it turns out he has had multiple minor strokes!

One of these has been in the cerebellum and has affected his Optic Nerves. He had absolutely no idea that he'd had these strokes, so if anyone does notice anything slightly wrong with their eyesight, please get it checked out.

Of course now, the Stroke Clinic are liasing with Haemotology to try and determine the cause of the clots and which drugs are compatible with each other and CML.

Just keep an eye on things.......

All the best to you all

Hi Bee,

How is it going with Ted and his eye problems/stroke? I hope all is well,

Sandy

Hi Sandy and everyone

Ted's minor strokes were definitely caused by clots, rather than

bleeds, so now they are trying to find out where they came from.......to try and prevent any more.

He has had an ECG and a heart scan so we are now waiting for the results to come through, but his next appointment with the stroke clinic is not for another month.

He is on a cocktail of drugs from the GP, standard ones I believe, but his consultants (stroke and haemo) have advised his GP no aspirin, and no warfarin if at all possible and have removed a drug that affects kidneys as his creatinine levels are high, but I believe this can be caused by Glivec.?

Other than now being partially sighted (which will not improve apparently) all is OK and he still rocks on.......!

Will update when there is any more news.

Bee
