Smoking

I'm fairly new to this. I was diagnosed in June, 2015. I am gleevec (the counts keep changing from 400mg to 600mg lately, currently on 600mg).

I'm a smoker, but i have quit smoking lately but my counts are going downhill ever since.

I know qutting smoking is always good, but was just wondering if i smoke does it affect my counts or worsen the situation in a manner? What else should i stay away from?

Hi Nishant,

Quitting smoking is obviously going to be good for your health in general - but there also seems to be at least some evidence that smoking may increase the risk of CML progression. One study in Germany (see second link) found "Disease progression was also worse in smokers. The 8-year cumulative incidence rate of progression was 7% for nonsmokers, compared with 12% in smokers".
