Dasatinib side effects

Categories:

Hello, wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to me when switching to Dasatinib. Having been on Imatinib, then Nilotinib for over 3 years our consultant discussed with us the option to switch to Dasatinib. This is because of a number of reasons, but mainly due to dry itchy skin, fatigue experienced on Nilotinib, and the difficulty of fasting twice a day to take it. Finally decided to take the plunge and change. Took the first dose of Dasatinib on Friday evening (I have always taken my TKIs in the evening). Woke around 4am Saturday feeling cold and body shaking all over. Also was very nauseous and sick multiple times, including straight after taking anti-sickness pills. As it was getting worse, my wife called the hospital and we were told to come straight in. Got there and was sick some more, then developed a high temperature. Fortunately they managed to get things under control by the afternoon so now back out of hospital again. We are waiting for the consultant to discuss what our course is from here - continue with Dasatinib, go back to Nilotinib, or even try Imatinib again? (I tolerated Imatinib better than Nilotinib but it didn't get my BCR-ABL any lower than 1%). I wondered if anyone has had a similar experience with Dasatinib and if these side effects are likely to get worse or quickly die down? Not feeling too keen taking another dose of it at the moment! Be glad of any comment, thanks

Hi Simon,

I was wondering if the effect you had was to do with a reaction to dasatinib or it turned out to be another issue entirely. I hope all is well and you have resumed therapy?

Hello Sandy

I'm back on Nilotinib for the moment... need to decide whether to try Dasatinib again, will be seeing the specialist on Tuesday about it. In my mind it was definitely a direct reaction to Dasatinib but curious that I can't find anyone else who has been affected like this!

Thanks for your reply, will see how this week goes
