Neutropenia after 1 month on 400 mg imatinib

Categories:

Doctor took me off imatinib for 2 weeks after my neutrophils dropped to 0.0. Now that they are back to normal he told me to resume treatment at same dosage. What are the chances of becoming neutropenia again?

What are the chances that you would be who you are...

Alisa - Very often a drug break will enable a successful re-trial, even at the same dose.  Sometimes it takes several tries.  Lowering the dose is an option, too.  I don't have the stats, but I think you have a very good chance for it not to happen again.  Another thing to think about:  A lot of us just live with lower-than-we'd-like neutrophils.  I'm always in the "ones", for instance.  When I get in the "twos" it's cause for a small private celebration.  But I've had no problems with infection or catching what's going around, etc. any more than the general population.  And I've been at this since 2009.  I have to say, I've never seen anyone have "zero"!  You'll have a good story to tell there, when you're all better.
